STAY DRY

RINSE IN 8-12 HOURS

SLEEP IN CLOTHES

Woman in pink swimwear with large hat on beach.

Avoid getting wet and/or sweating while your spray tan is developing.  If you feel uncomfortably sticky, you can apply a loose powder for comfort or purchase our AfterGlow spray tan setting powder.

SLEEP IN CLOTHES

Woman by pool with 'Stay Covered' text.

No, it don't have to be a unicorn onsie, I promise!  We want to prevent our skin from touching, skin on skin contact can make your spray tan appear darker in the area affected.  I suggest pajama pants and a comfy tee. (Long sleeve if you're an unperdictable sleeper.)

Woman in pink swimsuit by pool with text "RINSE 8-12 hours".

Try not to exceed the 24 hours mark to avoid drying out your skin.  The first post tan rinse is literally just that...a rinse.  Let the cosmetic bronzer run down the drain just lightly rubbing your hands over your body.  Skip the full body soap for this one shower and stick to only the necessary areas.  Washing your hair is ok, but ensure you rinse your shampoo out very well as to not leave a residue on your back.

PAT DRY ONLY

After your rinse and every shower for the duration of your tan, be sure to ONLY pat with your towel.  This does two things...it'll leave those skin cells in tact that we've tanned and it will help keep your skin damp, which is the best time to apply your lotion!

There is NO such thing as too much lotion.  If we think about what happens when we tan, it's easier to understand why this is so important.  We prep by exfoliating, this gets the skin cells ready to slough off...then we tan a fresh new layer of skin.  NOW...the trick is the hang on to this layer.  Dry skin can be a sworn enemy.  Dry skin turns over your cells faster, thus revealing the lighter skin under it and will result in that dreaded alligator/reptile looking skin.

AVOID FRICTION

MOISTURIZE! MOISTURIZE! MOISTURIZE!

Friction is your enemy, not water!  Remember when I said we need to hang on tight to those skin cells that we tanned knowing the next layer is pale....rubbing off the tan by doing things we don't normally think about can cause patches to wear away.  Things like, tight work boots around the ankles, sports bra straps, and for me personally, carrying a grocery bag or basket on the inner part of my arm.  If you cannot avoid certain things, a little drying powder can help create a glide to prevent the rubbing, especially when working out.
